See Like A Butterfly

As part of Denver Botanic Gardens' summer 2018 program about pollinators, I was asked to build a butterfly simulation to be projected inside the Science Pyramid. I studied several slow-motion butterfly flight videos and used procedural animation techniques to make the butterflies flap, coast, and occasionally hover next to a projection-mapped physical UV flower photo. I used four Colorado-native pollinator butterfly species that rotate in and out of the 3d scene over time: Two-tailed Swallowtail, Painted Lady, Arctic Blue, and Viceroy.
